The DePalma Roy Scholarship

A scholarship in the memory of Hartford Jazz Legend Don DePalma that contributes to the future of Jazz both in New England and around the world.

Honoring a Legacy

My name is Rosemarie Roy. I was Don’s best friend, a title with many a story. I have a scholarship in his name because he was a passionate musician who helped many musicians in and around the Hartford area. I was very fortunate to perform with Don on trombone during the last 15 years of his life. I put this scholarship together in Don’s memory after he passed from COVID in 2021 9 days before his 74th birthday.

We are thrilled to announce the 2024 DePalma Roy Scholarship recipient, Nicholas Davis. A passionate and talented saxaphone player, Nicholas showed a deep understanding of the jazz genre and a desire to continue furthering his education in the performing arts.

An excerpt from Nicholas's essay: "Don DePalma was that inspiration and support for countless musicians coming through Hartford... It is great that Don's name and legacy are being carried forward with this scholarship, and it is an honor to be considered as a recipient."
